Reconstruction of Refinery Worker Exposure to Benzene
Cardno ChemRisk scientists conducted a historical exposure assessment for airborne benzene exposures to workers at four major oil refineries (and their dock facilities) in the United States based on available industrial hygiene sample analyses. This assessment considered more than 40 years of industrial hygiene exposure measurements from each refinery. Benzene exposures of workers in various jobs, locations and tasks within the refineries were quantified by evaluating task and non-task exposures. The analyses were published in peer-reviewed literature (see for example Widner et al. 2011).
