Michael Kovochich, PhD, Senior Health Scientist
Location: Orange County, CA
Dr. Michael Kovochich is a Senior Health Scientist with Cardno ChemRisk. His main areas of training and expertise are in understanding the principles of nano-bio interactions including nanoparticle toxicology, as well as nanoparticle drug delivery systems. Dr. Kovochich completed his PhD in MicrobioIogy, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was involved in several research projects. His research on nanoparticles led to various publications on topics such as the toxicology of fullerene nanoparticles and drug delivery/toxicity of novel silica nanoparticles in cancer cells. Dr. Kovochich also finished his work at UCLA with a publication on the first nanoparticle engineered to be used in HIV latency therapy.
During his doctoral work, Dr. Kovochich received multiple fellowships from the UC Toxic Substances Research and Teaching Program where he completed class work on molecular toxicology with an emphasis on principles of nanotoxicology. As a consultant, Dr. Kovochich has led several efforts related to understanding potential exposure, toxicology and risk associated with various nanomaterials including nickel nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and metal-on-metal wear debris nanoparticles.
