Dr. Christy Barlow is a toxicologist with a wide range of experience in sampling and analysis, toxicology, exposure assessment, and risk assessment of airborne chemicals. She specializes in occupational toxicology, quantitative exposure reconstruction, human health risk assessment, and historical state-of-the-science assessment. Dr. Barlow earned a B.S. in Biology from Eckerd College and a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Vermont. Her dissertation work involved several research projects aimed at understanding the role of cellular signaling by oxidant stress and asbestos in the development of asbestos-related diseases. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Dr. Barlow examined the role of an oxidant-regulated poly(A) polymerase in the regulation of polyadenylation of specific mRNAs. More recently, she has been involved in researching, reconstructing dose and exposure, and assessing risk to consumers, communities, and workers exposed to a variety of chemicals. Her experience includes investigating the health effects of exposure to a variety of compounds, including asbestos, talc, silica, and sulfidic gases.
