Biography

Ms. Panko is a Principal Health Scientist with the consulting firm Cardno ChemRisk.  She has more than 30 years of experience in conducting and managing a wide variety of environmental health risk assessments and is a certified industrial hygienist (CIH).  A large portion of her practice is dedicated to the evaluation of chemical risks from industrial, commercial and consumer products within the context of various regulatory programs and voluntary initiatives.  Some of these have included product lines such as paints and coatings, adhesives, tires, arts and crafts, beauty care, and many industrial process chemicals. Her areas of expertise in quantitative exposure assessment including retrospective analysis of occupational and community-based exposures, human health risk assessment for contaminated sites, industrial hygiene program development and implementation and indoor air quality related to industrial, commercial and residential environments. Ms. Panko has evaluated the potential for human health risks associated numerous substances including benzene, toluene, xylene, acetone, TCE, dioxin, PCBs, mineral spirits, a wide variety of metals, PAHs, exhaust and non-exhaust vehicle emissions, perfluorinated compounds and biologicals including fungi and bacteria.  Ms. Panko has published on use of chemical footprinting and other commercially available tools to evaluate chemical risks associated with a product throughout its lifecycle, and provide transparent and scientific approaches for evaluating chemical substitutes.
