Evaluation of Acrylate/Methacrylate Polymers in Floor Care Products
- Challenge: The Basic Acrylic Monomer Manufacturers/Methacrylic Producers Association (BAMM/MPA) represents chemical companies whose substances are used in floor care products. These companies needed a systematic way to evaluate the potential exposure to the substances among end users. Cardno ChemRisk was asked to develop a database that would contain the necessary information and allow exposure assessments to be conducted efficiently.
- Approach: Cardno ChemRisk evaluated the technical literature regarding the products as well as other information to understand the floor care industry. This data was then used to script generic scenarios which could be assessed using mathematical exposure models. An electronic database was constructed to house the various parameters.
- Findings: More than 300 parameters are required to properly evaluate the potential exposure to chemical substances used in floor care products. Further, some of the parameters are related to one another and therefore need to be considered in combination when conducting the exposure scenario modeling.
- Value: The BAMM/MPA was able to provide its members with a product stewardship tool to assess the downstream uses of chemical substances in floor care products.
