Toxicology

As in previous years, a group of researchers from Cardno ChemRisk will attend the 2016 Society of Toxicology's Annual Meeting in New Orleans from March 13-17. At SOT, we will present recent research during posters and presentations.

Asbestos litigation is still considered one of the most important types of mass torts in the United States. Each year numerous companies, many of which are  end-product manufacturers of asbestos-containing products, file for bankruptcy as a result of the burden of asbestos litigation. On May 23, 2012 the Pennsylvania Supreme Court upheld a prior court’s ruling regarding the lack of scientific basis for the “every fiber counts” theory. It is commonly used by plaintiff’s experts in the courtroom to argue that inhalation of every asbestos fiber, regardless of mineral (fiber) type, is a contributing factor to the plaintiff’s disease.
